The story follows Terry and Andy Bogard as they pursue revenge against the criminal mastermind Geese Howard, who murdered their father, while also competing in the King of Fighters Southtown tournament. Drawing the game's roster into a fully animated drama, the special introduces original characters such as the heroine Lily, weaving a hot-blooded coming-of-age tale of vengeance and rivalry. While its action staging proudly showcases the special-move spectacle of fighting-game roots, the project also commits to grounded character drama and is celebrated for its memorable ending theme Fly Away (Kono Ai no Memory). The success of this special launched what became a multi-installment Fatal Fury anime saga.
