A comedy anime adapted from Neko Nekobe's gag manga, produced by Toei Doga and broadcast on TV Asahi. Centered on a flying goldfish named Gyopi-chan and the cheerful schoolgirl Wapiko Fujinoki, the series races through one slapstick incident after another at the bizarre Kaiwari Academy. With ensemble characters including the haughty rich girl Chitose, the show thrives on rapid-fire nonsense humor and laid the groundwork for the Toei girls' programming block that would later spawn Sailor Moon. Junko Uchida's lively theme song Wapiko Genki Yohou! became a beloved earworm for young viewers and remains an emblematic piece of early-90s magical school anime music.
