The film extends the universe of the popular TV anime, following the hapless elementary schooler Honmaru and his magical servant Taruruuto, a boy from the demon realm whose absurd spells turn every situation upside down. As Honmaru pines for the bright idol-like Iyona, Taruruuto's chaotic interventions spin out into rapid-fire gags and physical comedy, condensing the series' over-the-top humor into a brisk short suited to family audiences during spring vacation. The film became a beloved companion piece to the booming TV series and a representative entry in the Toei spring fair tradition.
