Michitekuru Toki no Mukou ni
Aired: 1991
A made-for-television feature animation produced by Studio Pierrot and broadcast on Nippon Television, adapted from Koji Suzuki's novel Paradise. Across roughly eighty minutes, the special tells a sweeping reincarnation love story spanning ten thousand years: in ancient Mongolia the boy Bogd and the girl Fayau are torn apart, and their souls are reborn again and again — through the Age of Discovery, the settlement of the Americas, and into the modern era — always finding each other anew. The lyrical screenplay, lavish artwork, and otherworldly score push the production beyond ordinary TV anime ambitions, marking the special as one of the era's most distinctive single-episode works.
