Silent Mobius

Aired: 1991

The first theatrical adaptation of Kia Asamiya's cyberpunk SF manga. In early-21st-century Tokyo, dimensional rifts allow Lucifer Hawk invaders to slip in from a parallel reality, and the all-female AMP unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police stands on the front line. The story tracks rookie investigator Katsumi Liqueur as she is drawn deeper into the conflict, surrounded by gleaming near-future architecture, psychic combat sequences and intimate character drama. With its stylish, neon-soaked visuals and a polished theme song arranged by Tom Keane, the film made a vivid impression on young Japanese audiences of the early 1990s and helped popularise the cyberpunk genre on screen.
