Compilation theatrical anime based on Riyoko Ikeda's historical shojo manga 'The Rose of Versailles,' produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha under directors Kenji Kodama and Hiroo Takeuchi with animation direction by Shingo Araki, distributed by Kyodo Eiga. The film recompiles the 40-episode 1979-80 TV anime into a 90-minute feature with re-recorded audio and additional cuts. Centering on the cross-dressing knight Oscar Francois, it captures the Versailles court drama on the eve of the French Revolution and the entwined fates around Marie Antoinette.
