A television anime produced by Kokusai Eiga-sha and broadcast on Fuji Television-affiliated stations across 28 episodes, an original children's SF action comedy from one of the studios that, alongside Sunrise, drove the early-1980s robot anime boom. The titular character Dotakon is a primitive 'mecha-boy' awoken from prehistoric slumber into the modern day, who attaches himself to a young human boy as his master and proceeds to wreak loud, well-meaning chaos with his enormous strength and total innocence about modern life. Built around the catchy theme song 'Oira Dotakon' performed by Isao Taira and a straightforward formula of mecha, nature and boyish friendship, the show captures the warm, eccentric atmosphere of Kokusai Eiga-sha's original kids' anime lineup.
