Ojamanga Yamada-kun
おじゃまんがやまだくん
Aired: 1980 - 1982
A television anime co-produced by Tsuchida Production and Visual 80 and broadcast on the TV Asahi network, adapting several four-panel manga by Hisaichi Ishii. Set in the third district of Higashi-Edogawa, it is a social-satire comedy about the three generations of the Yamada family and the residents of a student boarding house. Each episode places a different character at the center, unfolding biting short stories in omnibus form that weave topical material and the mood of the times with abundant black humor. With its deadpan character designs, dry wit, and a distinctive style that ironically skewers the sorrows of salarymen and families, it became a pioneering work among anime adapted from four-panel manga.
