A TV anime produced by Toei (Toei Doga). Based on the original work by Saburo Yatsude, this combining-robot anime aired in 47 episodes on Tokyo Channel 12 (now TV Tokyo) from March 21, 1979 to March 5, 1980. Set in 1995 on an Earth devastated by the invading Zaal Galactic Empire, war orphans Kento Tate and Danji Hiiragi discover mechs and combine them with the self-aware lion-type cyborg Beralios to form the giant robot Daltanious. Kento is revealed to carry the blood of an exiled prince of planet Erios, fighting amid the tension between his origins and the duty to defend Earth.
