Doraemon Nobita no Dorabian Nights
Aired: 1991
The twelfth Doraemon theatrical feature, based on Fujiko F. Fujio's manga. Nobita and his friends use the Picture Book Boots gadget to dive into the world of the Arabian Nights, where Shizuka becomes lost in a tale and the rest of the gang must travel to Baghdad to bring her back, contending with desert bandits, slave traders, and the mythic figures of the Sindbad voyages along the way. With flying carpets, magic lamp spirits, and the legendary city's bustling marketplaces, the film takes full advantage of its fantastical Arabian setting, becoming one of the most expansively scaled entries in the early-90s Doraemon movie run. Eiko Shiratori's gentle ballad Yume no Yukue carries the film's tender finale with grace.
