Umi Sonoda is a second-year student at Otonokizaka High School and a member of μ's, the school idol group at the center of the anime Love Live!. From a strict traditional household where she practices Japanese archery, she serves as μ's' lyricist, channeling her quiet emotions into the group's words, and she reins in best friend Honoka's wilder impulses. Her brutal training sessions earn her the affectionate nickname 'demon instructor.' She is voiced and sung by Suzuko Mimori, a member of the voice-actress unit μ's who also maintains an active career as a solo recording artist. Mimori's mellow, elegant delivery grounds Umi with both sternness and hidden warmth.
