A popular singer from Hokkaido. Armed with a resonant high register trained through folk singing, he became a legend of Japan's kayokyoku scene, remembered by the saying 'Mihashi opens the day and closes the day'. Leaving behind countless hits as well as folk songs and ondo pieces, he is still remembered as a figure who led the golden age of postwar kayokyoku. In the TV anime 'Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray', his song 'Shin Kasamatsu Ondo', tied to Kasamatsu Town in Gifu Prefecture, is featured as an insert track, lending regional sentiment and period atmosphere to the tale of Oguri Cap set against the Kasamatsu Racecourse.
