YUI is a Japanese singer-songwriter behind a long string of hits including signature J-pop singles such as CHE.R.RY and LIFE, celebrated for vocals that pair fragility with strength and for lyrics rooted in everyday life. In anime, she wrote and performed again as the opening theme for the TV anime Fullmetal Alchemist, opening the new adaptation of the Elric brothers' story with a forceful rock cut. The track has since been remembered as one of the defining songs of the franchise.
