Chara is a Japanese singer-songwriter who debuted in 1991 with the single 'Heaven'. With her distinctive floating whisper-tone vocals and a strong affinity for film work, including roles in Shunji Iwai's 'Swallowtail Butterfly' and 'PiCNiC', she carved out a singular position in J-pop from the 1990s onward. In anime, she has supplied tie-ins for projects that demand delicate emotional expression, including the ending theme 'Yellow Balloon' for 'PaRappa the Rapper', the opening theme 'Aoi Kakera' for NHK Educational's 'Telepathy Shoujo Ran', and the ending theme 'Kataomoi' (which she wrote and composed) for 'Kimi ni Todoke'.
