Lucifer is a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 1999 around vocalist MAKOTO. Built on a then-unprecedented concept, the real-world members took on the names of the in-story fictional band 'Lucifer' (Sakuya, Katsura, Santa, Toru, Yuta) from the late-night anime Kaikan Phrase, effectively letting an anime's imaginary band step into reality. Beginning with their debut single Datenshi BLUE and continuing with C no Binetsu and TOKYO Gensou, their songs featured lyrics by Yukinojo Mori across the board, with arrangements from veterans including Masahide Sakuma. The seductive, theatrical rock sound matched the racy shojo-manga source material and earned them their own distinct following alongside the so-called Four Heavenly Kings of visual kei.
