Coconuts Musume is a Japanese-Hawaiian idol group affiliated with Hello! Project, made up of members from Hawaii. Formed from five members chosen out of a 1,500-applicant final audition, they debuted in July 1999 under Tsunku-produced direction with the single 'Halation Summer'. The track was used as the early opening theme for the TV Tokyo anime 'Kyoro-chan', built around the long-running Morinaga Chocoball mascot, and its bright, bouncing Latin/summer-pop sound colored an opening full of children's-anime summer-vacation feel. Among Hello! Project's varied sister groups, the unit stood out with English-tinged vocals and a strongly Hawaiian visual identity.
