Akira Senju
Artist
Akira Senju is one of Japan's leading composers. Born in Tokyo, he graduated at the top of his class from the composition department of Tokyo University of the Arts, and has composed weighty, richly emotional scores in a wide range of fields including film, television drama, anime, and commercials. For the NHK TV anime 'The Snow Queen', produced in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Andersen's birth, he was in charge of the overall music. The opening theme 'Snow Diamond' features his younger sister, violinist Mariko Senju, producing a melody of transparent beauty suited to this work set in a world of snow and ice, a piece unique to the Senju siblings.
