"Witch on the Holy Night" is a theatrical anime based on the visual novel of the same name by Kinoko Nasu (TYPE-MOON). Originally released in 2012, it is set in the shared "TYPE-MOON universe" alongside the "Fate" and "Tsukihime" series, and has earned a dedicated fanbase.
Set in the fictional Japanese town of Misaki in the late 1980s, the story follows the young mage Aoko Aozaki. Identified by her grandfather as having aptitude for magic from a young age, Aoko — rather than her older sister Touko — was chosen to inherit the Aozaki family's magic crest. The story unfolds as these young women navigate their destinies through days of youth and battle.
Animation production is handled by ufotable, the studio behind "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" and the "Fate/stay night [Heaven's Feel]" trilogy. This latest project pairing TYPE-MOON and ufotable has generated significant attention.
The teaser visual depicts Aoko Aozaki and Alice Kuonji standing in a flower field under the night sky, with the text "Theatrical Animation Confirmed" and "Animation by ufotable."
