Based on the spin-off manga by Aki Shimizu depicting a prequel to Natsuhiko Kyogoku's "Hyakki Yako" series (over 10 million copies), currently serialized on Kodansha's "Comic Days." Set in early Showa-era Japan, the story follows female student Shiona Shiina and the erudite young man Akihiko Chuzenji as they unravel the mysteries of supernatural occurrences around them.
