A brand-new original anime project 'ZAN,' based on an original concept by internationally renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano, best known for his character designs for the Final Fantasy series, has been launched. The pilot film will have its world premiere at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, starting July 3.

The work is a dark fantasy inspired by Amano's 2010 art collection 'DEVA ZAN,' which features over 300 original artworks and was published by Dark Horse Comics. Set during the Sengoku period, young samurai ZAN is in the midst of a fierce battle at Azuchi Castle when he is guided by a mysterious girl's voice into a parallel world beyond time and space. In this realm, 'Trope,' the symbol of life, and its ruler 'RIKKA' govern the order of existence. Through intense battles, ZAN reexamines his own sense of justice.
