Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris
聖闘士星矢 邪神エリス
Aired: 1987
The first theatrical film in the 'Saint Seiya' series, based on the popular manga by Kurumada Masami and produced by Toei Doga. Screened as part of the Toei Manga Matsuri summer film festival, this 45-minute mid-length feature depicts the Bronze Saints led by Pegasus Seiya rising to confront the crisis when Saori, the incarnation of the goddess Athena, is made into a vessel for the evil goddess Eris. The fully animated battle scenes featuring Saints clad in their Cloths and the rapid-fire exchange of shooting-star-like special attacks delivered an intensity that set the film apart from the TV series, overwhelming audiences. Later given the subtitle 'Jashin Eris' (Evil Goddess Eris) by the original creator for its DVD release, it holds its place as the landmark first entry that built the foundation for the theatrical film series' popularity.
