Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics

グリム名作劇場

Aired: 1987 - 1988

A fantasy fairy tale anime drawing from the tales collected by the Brothers Grimm of Germany. Co-produced by Asahi Broadcasting Corporation and Nippon Animation, it was broadcast on the TV Asahi network in the Wednesday evening children's anime timeslot. The series adapted a wide range of stories for the screen, from well-known works like 'Hansel and Gretel' and 'The Town Musicians of Bremen' to lesser-known tales relatively unfamiliar in Japan. The adorable fairy girl narrator who serves as guide to the fairy tale world in each episode also generated considerable interest. The theme song 'Niji no Hashi' (Rainbow Bridge), sung by Ushio Hashimoto with lyrics by Michio Yamagami and composition by Koichi Morita, is a beloved song that underpins the pastoral world of the series. This was the first installment in a popular fairy tale franchise that continued with the sequel 'Shin Grimm Meisaku Gekijou.'
