Bari Bari Densetsu
バリバリ伝説
Aired: 1987
A theatrical anime based on Shuichi Shigeno's popular motorcycle manga. A theatrical re-edit of two OVA installments produced by Studio Pierrot -- 'PART I: Tsukuba Chapter' and 'PART II: Suzuka Chapter' -- it was distributed by Nippon Herald for a summer theatrical release, forming the golden double-feature pairing of motorcycle anime alongside 'Aitsu to Lullaby.' The story follows high schooler protagonist Guma Gun as he takes on legendary races at Tsukuba Circuit and Suzuka Circuit, challenging rivals like Hijiri Hideyoshi with his hair streaming in the wind, all etched into memory through dynamic animation and Yoko Oginome's theme song 'Slope ni Tenki-ame.' As a landmark youth anime symbolizing the motorcycle boom of the late 1980s, it continues to be cherished to this day.
