Innocence (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence)
いのせんす
Aired: 2004
The 2004 theatrical animated film directed by Mamoru Oshii and produced by Production I.G, serving as the sequel to "Ghost in the Shell." Set in 2032, the story follows Public Security Section 9's cyborg detective Batou as he investigates a series of murders in which gynoid companion robots inexplicably go berserk and kill their owners. Bearing the absence of Motoko Kusanagi — who departed into the digital sea in the previous film — Batou and his partner Togusa pursue the truth behind the incidents. Innocence became the first Japanese animated film selected for competition at the Cannes Film Festival, drawing praise for its meticulous fusion of cutting-edge CGI and hand-drawn animation, and for Kenji Kawai's solemn score anchored by the chant "Kugutsu Uta." The theme song "Follow Me" is performed by Kimiko Itoh. ©2004 Shirow Masamune/Kodansha・IG, ITNDDTD
