A theatrical anime film produced by Satelight, the concluding chapter of the two-part 'Macross Frontier' film series, released in 2011 with an almost entirely newly animated original story. Directed by Shoji Kawamori, written by Hiroyuki Yoshino and Kawamori, with music by Yoko Kanno. Three months after the previous film, Sheryl Nome collapses on stage from the V-Type Infection and is sentenced to death on suspicion of guiding the Vajra as a spy. Alto Saotome rescues her under cover of Ranka Lee's prison concert, but a massive Vajra swarm soon descends on the fleet. As the Frontier government's conspiracy and the secret of song come to light, the love triangle among Alto, Sheryl, and Ranka reaches its resolution. The film won the 16th Animation Kobe Award for Theatrical Film and the Newtype Anime Award 2011 for theatrical works, grossing 650 million yen.
