A five-episode OVA produced by Satelight and directed by Shoji Kawamori, released from 2002 to 2004. In 2008, at the end of the U.N. Wars, U.N. pilot Shin Kudo crash-lands on the remote island of Mayan, home to the shrine maiden sisters Sara and Mao Nome. The legend of the Bird Human, a relic of the ancient Protoculture, draws the variable fighter VF-0 and the Anti-U.N. SV-51 into battle. A prequel to the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross, it featured the series' first full-CG mecha action. Music by Kuniaki Haishima.
