A court mystery in which the young girl Maomao, well-versed in poisons and medicines, serves in the imperial rear palace and unravels numerous mysteries and incidents through her insatiable curiosity and keen powers of observation. Based on the light novel by Natsu Hyuuga, the anime is a joint production by TOHO animation STUDIO and OLM. The first cour features the opening 'Hana ni Natte' by Ryokuoushoku Shakai and the ending 'Aikotoba' by Aina The End, while the second cour features the opening 'Ambivalent' by Uru and the ending 'Ai wa Kusuri' by wacci, with the rich musical lineup drawing considerable attention.
