Set 14 years after the events of the previous film "2.0," Shinji Ikari awakens to face a drastically changed world and altered relationships. The film depicts WILLE's battle against NERV aboard the aerial battleship Wunder. It became the highest-grossing entry in the franchise with 5.26 billion yen at the box office.
