Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion

Aired: 1997

Directed by Hideaki Anno, this theatrical feature completely reimagines the final two episodes of the TV series Neon Genesis Evangelion. The first half, 'Air,' depicts Asuka's last stand as Seele's strategic self-defense forces and mass-production Evas storm NERV headquarters. The latter half, 'My Purest Heart for You,' places Shinji at the center of the Human Instrumentality Project, where he is forced to confront the self, the other, and the meaning of existence. Its overwhelming animation, shocking staging, and experimental mixing of live action and storyboards made it one of the most debated and influential works in modern anime history.
