Drawing on Arthurian legend, including Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, it is an original story adapted by Toei Animation for a young audience. The hero is the boy-king Arthur, who seeks to rebuild the ideal kingdom of Logres. At the age of three, after the evil king Lovic and his Black Knights murder his parents and seize Camelot Castle, Prince Arthur is rescued by the wizard Merlin and raised by the virtuous knight Sir Ector. Grown to fifteen, Arthur draws the holy sword Excalibur from the stone to prove his right to be king of all Britain, and leads a band of boy knights into battle against his archenemy Lovic and the Black Knights. A medieval-fantasy adventure that ardently depicts friendship, courage, and growth into kingship.
