A super robot anime produced by Toei Doga (Toei Animation), an original Toei concept. Earth faces invasion by the Zera Empire from a dark nebula outside the solar system. Dr. Daimonji leads the International Science Team Daiku-Maryu, fighting back with the fortress mecha Daiku-Maryu and the humanoid robot Gaiking that launches from its mouth. Former pro baseball player Sanshiro Tsuwabuki pilots Gaiking. Toei Doga's first original robot anime, later remade in 2005 as "Gaiking LEGEND OF DAIKU-MARYU." 44 episodes.
