Getter Robo (1974 TV anime)

A robot anime produced by Toei Doga (Toei Animation) and Dynamic Productions, based on the manga by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa. To counter the invading underground Dinosaur Empire, Dr. Saotome develops three Getter Machines piloted by Ryoma Nagare, Hayato Jin, and Musashi Tomoe. The machines combine in mid-air to form Getter Robo in three configurations: aerial Getter 1, ground Getter 2, and aquatic Getter 3, battling the dinosaur empire's Mechasaurus army. As the first multi-craft combining robot with multi-form transformation and serious dramatic stakes including pilot death, it revolutionized the robot anime genre. 51 episodes.
