Saya Asakura

A singer-songwriter from Yamagata Prefecture. She studied Japanese folk song from early childhood and holds the distinction of having won Japan's top min'yo title. Known for an original style that fuses dialect and folk tradition with contemporary pop, she has also drawn attention through Yamagata-dialect covers of famous songs and contributions to NHK's 'Minna no Uta'. For the TV anime 'The Summer Hikaru Died' she sings the insert song 'Boku wa Taiyaki'; her vocals, at once earthy and lightly humorous, let the warmth and the unease of rural everyday life seep in side by side, lending depth to the world of the work.
