Shinji Tanimura is one of Japan's most beloved singer-songwriters, born in Osaka. In 1971 he co-founded the folk group ALICE with Takao Horiuchi and Toru Yazawa, leading the 1970s-80s music scene with hits like Fuyu no Inazuma and Champion. As a soloist he created classics such as Subaru and Ii Hi Tabidachi (written for Momoe Yamaguchi), earning a national treasure status as well as devoted audiences across China and the rest of Asia. In anime, he performed the ending theme AURA for Yoshiyuki Tomino's Turn A Gundam, a sweeping ballad with his own lyrics and music arranged by Yoko Kanno, whose mature delivery beautifully framed the moonlit, cocoon-like world of the series. He also performed Fushikaden for The Romance of the Three Kingdoms Part II: The Yangtze Burns!.
