Julia Matsuda is a Japanese female singer-songwriter from Kyoto Prefecture. She debuted in 1993 with the single 'Dakishimete mo Tomaranai' and rose to prominence as one of the era's representative young female pop singers with hits such as 'Damatte naide' and 'Makenai Broken Heart.' Her debut album 'JULIA I' reached the upper tier of the Oricon weekly charts, establishing her presence. From the 2000s onward she expanded her style toward harder rock, including activity with her own rock band. In anime, she performed 'Starting UP,' the opening theme of the TV anime 'You're Under Arrest: Second Season.' She wrote the lyrics herself, with music by Kazuhiro Hara, giving this police drama-flavored show an opening that showcases her powerful vocal.
