Dr. Slump Arale-chan

どくたーすらんぷ あられちゃん

Aired: 1981 - 1986

A television anime produced by Toei Doga and broadcast on Fuji Television, adapting Akira Toriyama's wildly popular gag manga serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump. Set in the eccentric Penguin Village, the series follows the chaotic daily life of Arale-chan, a powerful but innocently childlike girl-shaped robot built by absent-minded inventor Senbei Norimaki, and a colorful cast that includes Senbei himself, the alien baby Gatchan, the heir Obotchaman, and a host of bizarre townspeople-including a literal sun with a face and a perfectly polite walking poop. The anime amplifies Toriyama's surreal, anarchic comedy with vivid animation and inventive direction, turning Dr. Slump into a social phenomenon embraced equally by children and adults. It also stands as the origin point of the Toei x Akira Toriyama partnership that would later produce the global juggernaut 'Dragon Ball.'
