In this second half of the Alicization arc, Kirito (Kazuto Kirigaya), having lost his best friend Eugeo and his own arm and consciousness in the battle against Administrator, lives quietly with Alice in their hometown of Rulid Village. However, as the countdown to the "Final Load Test" progresses, the Dark God Vecta awakens in the depths of the Dark Territory and leads an army of darkness to invade the Human Empire to claim Alice, the "Priestess of Light."
